How would you like to grant a dying boy's wish?

LUMBERTON — With a 42-cent postage stamp and a 50-cent Christmas card, you can help make a dying child’s wish come true.

Seven-year-old Damien Hammonds has been battling neuroblastoma — a type of incurable cancer that often occurs in young children — since June 2005. Damien began receiving hospice care last summer after doctors said there was nothing more they could do to fight the disease.

Two weeks ago Damien told his grandmother that his only Christmas wish was to receive Christmas cards through the mail. Word spread and the child has received dozens of cards since.

His father, John, said representatives from most of the schools in Robeson County have hand delivered or mailed cards from teachers, staff members and students, including from Magnolia Elementary School, where Damien attended kindergarten for a time.

Cards may be sent to the following address: Damien Hammonds, 409 Burns Road, Lumberton, N.C. 28358.

A more detailed story about Damien and his Chirstmas wish will appear in The Robesonian next week. But we wanted to publish this now to give people time to get their cards in the mail so they will be there for Damien on Christmas Day.

I'm going to send out a card for him tomorrow. It would be amazing if some people on my list could do the same.

There are going to be writing a more in depth article soon, I'll be sure to link it when it comes out. Like this article says, they wanted to give people a chance to get the cards out in time for Christmas.

I wish I did too, but I imagine he's a normal boy who likes normal boy things :3

Ok, will look for it when you add it to your journal. Afraid my card's not going to make it in time though because mail doesn't leave town on Sundays and all of it stays in the P.O. until Monday. But, better late than not at all.

This sounds brilliant. :)

UNFORTUNATELY, mail doesn't go out tomorrow. D; I guess I'll be sending it out monday. Hopefully I have time to make a card! I hate buying ones. They're not very personal.

I'll put this in my journal!
